Thatched dwellings

I had always wondered why Ethiopia was known as the 'Cradle of Mankind'. But having ventured there a few years ago I finally discovered the reason.
The country has been known since the dawn of time, and it is believed that modern human beings evolved in the ideal conditions of its Rift Valley. Through archaeology the remains of distant ancestors, over four million years old, have been recovered.
Imagine spending time in such a place!
Land-locked as it is, with a diverse topography of rugged mountains, flat-topped plateaus, deep gorges and river valleys, this is a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic country, utterly beautiful, and barely touched by modern society.
From the churches of Lalibela, hewn out of rock, to the huge, and somewhat mysterious, obelisks of Axum, and from the peaceful monasteries of Lake Tana to the unique wildlife of the Simien Mountains, this really is a place like no other.
A journey deep into human history.....accompanied by some of the most warm-hearted and welcoming people I have ever met.
